Streit Law founder and owner Angie Streit Ajas and former colleague Katie Lammers had a big win in the Minnesota Court of Appeals this month. Prior to launching Streit Law, Angie worked hard with Katie—partner and head of family law at Heimerl & Lammers—to secure grandparent visitation for Katie’s client. Their efforts culminated in a decision by the Court of Appeals clarifying when a grandparent who has resided with their grandchild may petition the court for visitation with the child. After the District Court awarded Katie’s client visitation rights to see her young grandson, the mother appealed, arguing that the living arrangement involved did not qualify the grandmother for grandparent visitation. The Court of Appeals disagreed in a published opinion, creating statewide case law for grandparents, grandchildren, and their families. And, on a more personal note, Katie and Angie are so pleased for the client!
